10 Binge Worthy Netflix Series and Movies

Bored and need Netflix recommendations to binge watch? Lucky for you, I have accumulated billions of hours on Netflix and have 10 Netflix series and movies that will widen your range from Sci-fi to Comedy ! Thank me later!


1. The Midnight Gospel





The Midnight Gospel is an psychedelic Adult animated series created by Adventure time's Pendleton Ward. It revolves around a Spacecaster (space podcaster) named Clancy Gilroy (Comedian, Duncan Trussell) who travels to alternative universes with the help of a computer simulator and interviews strange creatures in apocalyptic situations.

The interviews are based on Trussell's Podcast, The Duncan Trussell Family Hour where him and his guests discuss different philosophies and share personal stories involving life, death and everything in between. It's a very eye opening and touching series that I think anyone would embrace if they are open-minded.



2. New Girl

New Girl is an American sitcom that revolves Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) a quirky and bubbly woman who moves into a Los Angeles loft apartment with three single men after a serious breakup. Although initially they were all strangers who met off Craigslist they soon become the best of friends who just want the best for each other. The show follows the group as they struggle with romantic relationships and their careers in their thirties. New Girl will make you laugh and have you emotionally invested into these characters' lives.



3. Billy on the Street with Billy Eichner

Billy on the Street with Billy Eichner is an American comedy game show where each episode Billy goes out into the streets and randomly tests New Yorkers about pop culture for money. Additionally, celebrity friends feature in the show and play along such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Seth Rogen, Aziz Ansari and Lupita Nyong'o. Originally the show was aired on Fuse for 3 seasons but now all 5 seasons are available on Netflix. Billy is apologetically hilarious and a bit rude but his random encounters with unsuspecting pedestrians are always unpredictable and entertaining to watch!


4. Queer Eye

Queer Eye is a Netflix Original Series that reboots the original Bravo series, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy that features a new Fab 5. The new cast consists of Bobby Berk as the interior expert, Karamo Brown as the culture expert, Antoni Porowski as the food and wine expert, Johnathan Van Ness as the grooming expert and Tan France as the fashion expert. The series follows the Fab 5 as they travel to different cities to conduct lifestyle makeovers to nominated guests who have hardship and need motivation to succeed. Every episode is absolutely heartwarming and will put a smile your face!



5. Bojack Horseman

Bojack Horseman is an adult animated series that revolves around a washed up 90s sitcom star that struggles with addiction and depression as he tries to make a comeback. The series is set in a alternative world mostly in Hollywood where anthropomorphic animals and humans live side by side. To help him gain new publicity, he hires Diane Nguyen as a ghostwriter for his autobiography where she interviews and follows him around to write the book. This show follows Bojack (Will Arnett) and the misadventures he has with his freeloading friend Todd Chavez and his rival Mr. Peanutbutter as he tries to hold relevancy in Hollywood and learns to cope with his past. If you're into dark humor and open to existential topics then this show will have you hooked!



6. Explained

Explained is a documentary series that is produced by Vox Media and based on Vox's Youtube series. There are currently 3 spin off series available on Netflix, The mind Explained, Sex, Explained and Covid-19, Explained where each episode is themed on the specific topic. Among topics covered are Racial Wealth Gap, Why Women are Paid Less, Weed and World's Water Crisis. This show is voiced by a narrator along with clips presenting data and historical timelines for young millennial audiences to stay educated and aware of relevant topics in a new enjoyable way. Also full episodes are now available on YouTube to watch.


7. Gentefied

Gentefied is a comedy/ drama Netflix original show that follows three Mexican American cousins who live in Los Angeles and try to save their family owned taco shop as the neighborhood becomes increasingly gentrified. "Gentefied" is a take on the word gentrified combined with the word gente which means people in Spanish. The show represents a realistic side to the Latino community along with the values and dreams of 1st and 2nd generation. It deals with real life issues that urban communities are dealing with at the moment like issues with labor injustices, prejudice, and stereotypes. This show will make you laugh, cry and make you want some more!


8. When They See Us

When They See Us a Crime/Drama Netflix series that is based on the 1989 Central Park Jogger Case that follows the lives of the five young Black suspects who were falsely accused of rape and assault to a white woman in Central Park, New York City. Upon discovery of the badly injured woman, the 5 teens near the area were arrested and pressured to make false statements resulting in a very publicized trial. All were wrongfully accused and sentenced to juvenile detentions and later adult prisons. The show explores the unjust legal system and prejudice that the media has on POC. This short series is a emotional roller coaster ride that is hard to watch but thought-provoking as it showcases the struggles of these innocent men.



9. The 13th

The 13th is a Netflix Original documentary that discusses the 13th Amendment, which is the abolition of slavery and explores the alternative form of slavery which is the mass incarceration of POC. This film explores the economic history of slavery, oppression and the present day racist prison system along with commentaries from featured African American activists, politicians and scholars. If you want to gain some insight towards American History and curious about the Black Lives Matter movement, watching this documentary will be a good start. There's no excuse not to watch this eye opening film because it's now available on YouTube to watch for free!



10. The Twilight Zone

The Twilight Zone is an American Science fiction/ Supernatural series blast from the past that was created and presented by Rod Serling from 1959 to 1964. This infamous black and white show is known for pushing boundaries in storytelling and inspiring many others years later. Every episode presents different characters and story lines that deal with usual events called the "Twilight Zone" Although, this show is over 50 years old it's incredibly thought-provoking themes involving war, mortality and technology can still resonate with present today. If you have already watched all Black Mirror episodes I would recommend watching this next!
