What You'll Need

ree
  1. Plain T-shirt

  2. Two Elastic Bands

  3. Scissors

  4. Pencil

  5. Sewing Machine

  6. Safety Pins

  7. Straight Pins

  8. Seam Ripper

  9. Ruler (Optional)

Instructions

ree

Layout out the t-shirt on a flat surface and grab a ruler and pencil to help you mark the line.

ree

Next, draw a line from the left bottom armhole to the right shoulder with the help of the ruler.

Cut right along the line and remove the left section of the shirt to make it a one shoulder trendy top! (Optional: Pin along the line to prevent the fabric from moving when cutting)

ree

Take the left section of the t-shirt that was cut out and flip inside out and remove the sleeve from the section with a seam ripper.

ree

ree

After, wrap the elastic band over the left shoulder and under the right arm to determine how much is needed for the top. Then pin together.

ree

ree

Cut off the extra and leave an inch where's pinned for potential needed space.

ree

Wrap the 2nd Elastic band around the left arm and pin where's most comfortable.

ree

ree

Cut off extra and leave an extra inch for some potential needed space.

ree

The off the shoulder sleeve

For the tunnel for the elastic band, Fold 1/4 " on raw edge of the sleeve all the way around.

ree

Fold the second time around 1" all the way around.

ree

Pin all along the seamline then leave 2 pins horizontally across the hem with 1" apart for the passageway for the elastic band.

ree

ree

Time to sew! Start sewing from the first horizontal pin and backstitch. Edgestitch around the pinned hem with about 1/8" from the seamline and stop when at the 2nd horizontal pin is reached then backstitch again.

ree

1" inch section should be left unsewn for the elastic band to go inside the tunnel.

ree

Take a safety pin and attach it to the end of your elastic band.

ree

Take the end of the elastic band with the safety pin and insert it inside the 1" section left unsewn. Pull the elastic band through the tunnel using the safety pin as a guide.

ree

Hold onto the safety pin and pull the fabric as it scrunches. Make sure to evenly distribute the fabric after it's scrunched.

ree

When the safety pin makes it through the tunnel, pin both ends with a straight pin and get ready to sew.

ree

ree

Sew the end of the elastic band along with the vertical pin.

ree

Now it's time to edgestitch the 1" inch section left off which completes the off the shoulder sleeve.

ree

ree

The Rest of the Top

Repeat the same steps done to the sleeve.

For the tunnel for the elastic band, Fold 1/4 " on raw edge of the sleeve all the way around.

ree

Fold the second time around 1" inch all the way around then pin close to the edge.

ree

Leave 1" inch pinned horizontally for the entrance for the elastic band to go through.

ree

Start sewing from the first horizontal pin and backstitch. Edgestitch around the pinned hem with about 1/8" from the seamline and stop when at the 2nd horizontal pin is reached then backstitch again.

ree

Again, attach the safety pin to the end of the elastic band and insert the elastic band through the 1" inch opening.

ree

Use the safety pin as a guide to pull the elastic band through the tunnel while scrunching the fabric back.

ree

When the safety pin reaches the opening, pin both ends then cut the extra leftover.

ree

Cut off the leftover elastic and get ready to sew along the pin.

ree

Sew the elastic ends together then close the 1" inch entrance by edge stitching along the seams.

ree

ree

Attach the left sleeve to the top

Aline the side seam of the sleeve to the left side of the top.

ree

ree

Flip the shirt inside out and pin horizontally from the bottom of the elastic to the top.

ree

Stitch horizontally on the top and the bottom to attach the sleeve to the top & you're done!
